fermate - what's home when the heart is lost [2009]
FERMATE [2009]
Performance installation
A car has veered off the road and hit a tree. Skid marks are visible in the woodland soil. Smoke wafts up from the bonnet; melancholy music plays on the broken radio. A man sits hunched up on a hillock. Ceaselessly he's staring at the car.
Fermate is a moment extracted from a film that could have been made. A moment that has been frozen and translated into a live version so you can walk around it and stand in it, instead of just watching it from the sidelines – as would be the case if you saw it on screen.
Fermate is a site-specific work that was created for the Into The Great Wide Open festival on the island of Vlieland off the Dutch coast.
